NIC Issue After WHS Update

Postby cgordonn on Wed Dec 24, 2008 5:54 pm

For the last 4 months I have been using an eval copy of WHS on a homemade server that I converted from an old HP mini tower. The NIC I had in this sever is a Linksys Gigabit NIC, model EG1032 v3. All has worked well for the entire 120 eval period. No problems at all.

After updating the server with my new licensed copy of WHS, my NIC is not being recognized. I have tried multiple times to install a driver (XP, WIN2000 compatible) and it still wont work. Linksys tech support had been less then helpful with any so called support.

Can anyone here in the forum offer any insight on how to get my NIC working, or recommend a tried and true NIC that will work in WHS?

Thanks!

I had "real" issues with the realtek rtl8211cl onboard gigabit lan of my asrock motherboard, it would almost complete the backup, then hang.
I tried alot of things to get it to work, but eventually uninstalled it from the hardware manager, and disabled it in the bios. Installed a netgear ga311 pci card, and XP driver, now WHS works flawlessly.
This is coupled with a D-link DIR-655 gig router. Since the card was borrowed, I will be trying a DGE-530T later today, if UPS shows. LOL
The realtek nic uses a Nvidia driver that came on the mobo cd, I think this is the basic issue, it worked for everything else except WHS.
Bottom line I would try to remove/disable the hardware and drivers for the NIC, then try to get the new install to recognize it, then reinstall the XP driver. If that doesn't work, try a different NIC.
Yes, I know this is a 1 year old post, but maybe it will help someone else.
