NEED HELP ASAP - diabled NIC

Postby subarunut on Fri Oct 09, 2009 11:59 pm

Hello all. NEWB here with the windows home server. I am a IT Professional and can't figure out a way to get around this mistake I made.

I have a HP EX485 connected to my home network and was connected to it via remote desktop. I had opened the network card properties window and by accident I clicked on diable and not properties. :bang head agenst keyboard:. so I am thrying to figure out a way to get onto the system that is headless like the EX485 and re-enable the NIC. The only way I can think of accomplishing this is to go out and, hopefully, find a USB to VGA addapter that will work w/out direct interaction with the system, which thinking about it, might not be possible.

Thanks for the help.

found the solution:

These are the FULL steps for resetting the network interface
Have a keyboard plugged before system is turned on
turn on system
wait until you hear almost no disk activity - up to 10+ minutes
Press ESC - 2 or 3 times
[Ctrl+Alt+Del]
hold down [Shift key] then press the [TAB key] briefly!!!! 1 time
type: administrator
[tab key] - again 1 brief press (if you hold it it will start jumping)
[password]
[enter] wait 5 minutes
[StartMenuKey + r]
"ncpa.cpl" - without quotes
[enter]
wait 60 seconds
[UpArrowKey]
[Enter]
