MS Windows Home Server

Hi everyone,

I can't access any sort of HP mediasmart or windows home server website through the mss. When I type in localhost:55000, it gives me an unable to connect error. I've also ran the WHS toolkit and it basically displays that it can't connect to anything that would be serving webpages. I also checked under the add/remove programs for windows components and noticed that I don't have IIS installed which would explain that I also don't have IIS service running or appearing in the services manager.

So my question:
Should I go ahead and install IIS from the windows components wizard? This is currently running in a small business environment (>5) and I have already moved all their data and setup their user names on the server so I don't really want to do a full restore with HP's recovery disks.

I know this is a little late for a response, but I just signed up to this forum to help you and others out. If you've already found your answers, disregard this.

IIS is installed and pre-configured on WHS but attempting to go to localhost:55000 to download the Connector or for the link to the Toolkit will only work if you're are visiting this URL directly from the server, if you're trying to view that link from another computer on the network (which would most likely be the case) you'd have to visit http://ServerName:55000 or http://IPAddress:55000

If you are attempting this from a Remote Desktop Connection on the server then localhost should be valid.

Again, based on how I'm reading this I think you're trying to find this information (the IIS install, and lack of site interface) from a client on the network and you should NOT attempt to install IIS on that system unless you have a valid reason to host websites from the other machine as IIS will default to port 80 and the two will conflict until you configure one to use alternate ports.
