Introducing Me and My Beast!!

Hello all my name is Chris Rye I'm an IT Tech (geek) from the Nashville,TN area. I'm always messing with server's at work so I thought I would build my own,not only for the utility of it but for fun and learning experience. Hats Off to Microsoft for Windows Home Server this is a great OS for the money!

My Server
Dell Poweredge 1300/600 (bought on E-bay for about $50)
Dual Pentium3 600mhz 512mb cache Slot1 processors
1.5 gb pc100 ecc registered ram
400gb Hitachi IDE hard drive
146gb Fujitsu SCSI hard drive
Intel pro1000gt and pro100s network adapters

I know the setup sounds very archaic but it actually works really well. I'm not only running WHS on the Server but I'm also running Windows NT 4.0 Server via Windows Virtual Server 2005. I did this so I could add my own domain to WHS,so to speak.I like the domain controls especially when running XP Pro workstations because of the increased user account flexibility. The only thing I don't really like about the setup is the fact that I cant log onto my domain with WHS. Not that the WHS software is not capable but because of the fact that my domain controller resides virtually on my WHS.To get around this I just added a Server account in Windows NT Server Manager so that even though I'm not logged on to my domain I still have automatic access to files on WHS. Another point of interest (well at least to me ) is that I had to add another network card to the sytem so that the two OS's could "see" each other. The final product at least in my point of view is a true "small business class" server for about $250.00.

I'd like to play with some of the add ons now that I have it all set up any suggestions? Thanks!
