Hard Drive missing

Postby tsmiller1 on Fri Jul 31, 2009 5:09 am

Greetings,

I have had WHS for over a year now, and with little problem until a month ago, when I ran into a lot of issues that forced me to back off my shared drive data onto an external drive, re-format all my drives, and re-install WHS again. I have two 500GB internal drives, and a multi-bay enclosure (USB) with four drives (500GB + 3 x 120GB drives). All are IDE drives.

After the reinstall things looked to be going smoothly, but I started noticing that one of the internal drives kept "disappearing". It would show as MISSING on the console. This would cause all kinds of error messages: Backups service not running, hard drive has failed, etc. I tried shutting down, opening the case and ensuring the cables were all snug, and rebooted. The drive showed up for a while, then promptly disappeared again. I tried "removing" the drive through the console and re-adding it, with the same result: it worked for a little while, then promptly went missing again.

Do you guys have any ideas?
