Energy-efficient WHS setup

Postby Helena on Mon Jan 05, 2009 2:14 pm

I want to build a WHS set-up, but since it's going to be a 24/7 running system (of course), I want it to consume as little power as possible (without compromising performance). I was thinking of an Intel Atom 330, as has also been shown in another post in this forum. However, the Intel D945GCLF2 board (http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/D945GCLF2_atom_330/) is not exactly optimal, it seems.

Any suggestions?

I just took a look at the review that you linked. I'm just curious: In what way is this board "less than optimal" in your view?

I am also considering building a whs, with an eye toward power optimization. I've never built a computer before, but currently have several in the house and whs seems to be an ideal solution for many issues that we are currently facing. With my non-techie background, this is what I see as the greatest limitation for this board:

1. Provides only 2 sata connectors

Just curious though - not knowing much about computers innards - what other limitations do you see?

Thanks
