Duplicate artists when streaming to Xbox 360

Postby Dragonwyntir on Mon Oct 26, 2009 2:24 pm

Howdy folks! I'm wondering if I could ask for some assistance with an issue I've run into.

I'm the proud owner of an Acer easyStore H340 Windows Home Server. I have my entire ripped CD collection (almost all MP3s, a handful of WMA files), which comprises almost 90GB of data. I have a little over 1200 artists on the drive altogether. The Acer ships with the normal Windows Media Connect (called "Media Sharing" in the settings; I'm assuming this is part of the OS like most WHS installs), DMS (Digital Media Server) and the iTunes Server. I have turned off the last two, and only left the Media Sharing enabled. My primary reason for having one of these enabled is to stream music to my Xbox 360. When I browse to my server from my Xbox, it finds the server, but the artist count is HUGELY increased! The last count was over 2100 artists! It seems that when I browse to the different artists, they all seem to play, but as I scroll down the list, it shows many of them duplicated.

Has anyone run into this issue? Any suggestions on how to fix this? Is it that I need to rebuild the database of files? If so, how do I go about doing that? As a side note, if I share that same collection through Windows Media Player 12 or Zune 4.0, I get the correct amount of artists (of course, that is sharing from the WHS through the PC and to the Xbox 360, so that sort of defeats the purpose of having a separate always-on server). Any help you can provide would be hugely helpful; cheers!
