10 computer limit

Postby BigSich on Wed Aug 19, 2009 10:13 pm

I see that you can only network up to 10 computers with the server. If the network I will be installing it on has more than 10 computers will I select the ones I want to be on the server's "list". And will this cause any problems for the computers that aren't in terms of internet. Lastly, will I be able to drop files from one comptuer's shared docs that is not on the server's "list" to another computer that is on the srever's "list". Thanks.

Sorry for the really late reply, I just signed up for this forum, I planned on answering you and a few others shortly.

The 10 computer limit is for the systems that WHS will backup on it's own. Technically if you're not going to be backing up every system then you can have any number of systems access the server with no problems, they just have to connect via already created usernames (or via Guest if you have that enabled). Based on the question stating you'll have more than 10 systems I assume this isn't a home environment, but will work the same either way. Say for example you have the same user/pass set up on 5 different computers (U:Technician/P:password) for ease of use all five of those systems can browse the network shares from //ServerName/ShareName if a user is setup on WHS with those specs. Now, for those 5 computers to all be backed up on the server they have to be added via the "Computers & Backups" tab in the Console and count against your 10, but if you only need one of those systems backed up all five would count as the same one.

Hope this helps and sorry if it's a little confusing, just trying to help.
Feel free to PM me if you need any more clarification.
